My wife and daughter thought it would be amusing to get me a 'Diving With Sharks' voucher for Deep Sea World, North Queensferry, Scotland, UK.  I'd never dived before and didn't even have any interest in it.  But never being one to refuse a challenge, on a day in March 2004, we went to DSW and I had my first dive; albeit in a big tank filled with freezing cold water filtered from the Firth of Forth, and a few Sand Tiger Sharks to keep me company.  Despite the cold, it was brilliant and I was hooked. 

Next, I started the PADI Open Water course in Rhodes, the Advanced and Nitrox in Egypt, then the Scottish Sub-Aqua Club Sports Diver.  I've dived in and around Scotland, the Greek Islands, the Red Sea, the Canaries, and the Balearics.  So far this year, I've been diving in Egypt, Lanzarote, Ibiza and at Scapa Flow, Orkney Islands, UK.  

Best dives?  Hard to say,  I did the Thislegorm in July 2007 and I probably consider that my best dive experience overall.   Scapa comes a close second - but only because the viz isn't anywhere near as good.  

However, Ras Mohammad, Jackson and Gordon Reefs are fantastic and don't underestimate the Canaries.  At 100km off the West Coast of Africa, there's the chance to see so much fantastic marine life including stingrays, angelsharks, seahorses, groupers, barracuda, moray eels and even dolphins!
